Home Street recently donated a portion of its services to replace a roof for a deserving senior in the Audubon Park neighborhood of Northeast Minneapolis. Home Street performed the roof replacement at the request of Hearts and Hammers Twin Cities, a local volunteer organization which provides exterior “home rehab” for deserving homeowners in the Twin Cities area. Roofing materials were provided at a reduced cost by ABC Supply in Minneapolis. Hearts and Hammers partners with local organizations to provide painting, caulking, siding, landscape improvements and more for homeowners who want to remain in their homes, but may have a hard time keeping up with basic repairs due to physical and financial limitations.

More often than not the prevoius roofing contractor has not replaced the chimney flashing or has not flashed the chimney correctly. Smearing blackjack roof sealant on the chimneys prone leak points is not an acceptable form per code nor an acceptable practice period. Home Street uses one piece galvanized flashings called saddles or crickets for chimney flashing applications along with Riglet counterflashing to insure a leak free and worry free roof. We take the extra steps to insure that the job is done right so we can stand behind our work.
 
Anything sticking up through the roof is a probable leak point, such as plumbing stacks, roof vents, Comdeck Dish antenna mounts and chimneys. It is our goal to first cover these trouble-prone areas with weatherwatch Ice and Water shield and to use the flashing detail outlined by building code and the roofing manufacturers to properly seal the area.
